Stake Poker Review

The crypto casino giant just built a poker room - and the fish-to-shark ratio is unlike anything else online
Stake.com launched poker in May 2024, dropping tables directly into a casino and sportsbook platform that already handles 127 million monthly visits. The result is a player pool dominated by crypto gamblers and stream-watchers who have never read a solver output in their lives. The rake is high and the guarantees are modest, but the competition is the softest in the industry for a reason.

02 What Stake Poker actually is - and why that matters
Stake.com is not a poker room that added casino games. It is a crypto casino and sportsbook - one that counts Drake as an equity partner and official ambassador, sponsors Sauber's Formula 1 car, Everton FC, and the UFC, and draws north of 127 million monthly visits - that added poker in May 2024. That origin story shapes everything about what you encounter at the tables.
The poker lobby sits inside the main Stake casino interface, accessible under 'Casino - Games.' Players arriving at the Hold'em tables are not coming from poker forums or training sites. They are casino players who clicked across from Crash, Dice, or the sportsbook. Some of them are Drake stream viewers. This is the reason every credible poker review of Stake since launch has flagged the same thing: field softness unlike anything at the same stakes on a traditional network.
The trade-off is equally obvious. Stake Poker is a young product in a mature industry, operated by a company whose core identity is crypto casino. Tournament guarantees top out at $2,000. The rake is 7% - meaningfully above the 5% that GGPoker and most major networks charge. Rakeback is locked behind $10,000 in lifetime wagers across the whole platform. None of this matters much if you are a casual recreational player. It matters a lot if you are a volume grinder hunting the highest possible edge per hour.
03 Software and platform - what you get in the client
Stake Poker runs entirely in the browser. There is no downloadable client, no separate app, and no need to create a standalone poker account - you use the same Stake.com login as the casino and sportsbook. The lobby separates Cash, Tournaments, and Freerolls with basic stake-level filters. Table assignment in cash games uses a 'Seat Me' auto-seating system rather than manual seat selection, which limits bumhunting and keeps tables moving.
Feature-wise, the client punches above its age. Run It Twice, Insurance, Straddle (including auto-straddle), Rabbit Hunting, and stack display in big blinds are all present. Bet sizing buttons are customizable pre- and post-flop. The hand history viewer lets you replay sessions in-client. What is intentionally absent is any external tracking software - HUDs, data miners, and third-party solvers connected to a live session are all prohibited and technically blocked. This policy benefits recreational players directly.
The practical limits are worth noting. Multi-tabling is capped at six concurrent tables as of late 2024, which limits hourly volume for serious grinders. Mobile play works through the same browser experience on iOS and Android without a dedicated native app, which is functional but not as polished as GGPoker's purpose-built mobile client. For recreational sessions, none of this is a meaningful constraint.

04 Rake: the number every player should know before depositing
The rake structure at Stake Poker is flat 7% across every cash game format - Hold'em, PLO, PLO5, PLO6 - with caps that scale by stake and number of players at the table. Heads-up caps are the lowest; five-plus player caps are the highest. Tournament rake is 10% of the buy-in, which is standard for smaller online rooms. There is no additional prize pool deduction or 'loyalty fee' layer of the kind some networks add on top.
All-in or Fold tables use a different model: a fixed dollar rake plus an equal-amount jackpot contribution per hand. At $0.05/$0.10, that is $0.01 rake plus $0.01 jackpot per hand. At $5/$10, it is $0.75 plus $0.75. The jackpot contribution is not trivial at higher AoF stakes, but it funds the $500,000 All-in or Fold Jackpot pool - triggered when you win at showdown with a straight flush or better using two hole cards.

05 VIP program and rakeback: the honest math
Stake operates a single unified VIP Club across the entire platform - casino, sportsbook, and poker all contribute to the same lifetime wagering total. The base rakeback rate is 3.5% of rake paid, returned weekly to your account. You cannot claim it until you reach Bronze tier, which requires $10,000 in cumulative wagers across any combination of Stake products. For a player who only plays poker and runs $100-200 in monthly volume, Bronze is a realistic target within a few months. For a player coming in fresh with zero casino history, it takes longer.
The VIP tiers above Bronze add weekly and monthly reload bonuses, bonus growth multipliers, and eventually a dedicated host at Platinum IV and above. Rakeback does not automatically scale with tier - it is the underlying 3.5% that is consistently quoted for poker players, with the incremental value coming from reload bonuses rather than a higher rakeback percentage. This is structurally different from rakeback-first rooms like CoinPoker or ACR where the headline rakeback scales explicitly with volume.
Stake VIP Club - tier structure
| Level | Lifetime wager required | Key poker-relevant benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | $10,000 | Unlock 3.5% weekly rakeback + monthly bonus |
| Silver | $50,000 | Upgraded weekly and monthly bonuses |
| Gold | $100,000 | Enhanced bonus growth multipliers |
| Platinum I | $250,000 | Daily reload bonus (14 days) + bonus growth |
| Platinum IV | $2,500,000 | Dedicated VIP host + permanent reload bonuses |
| Diamond I | $25,000,000 | Custom bonuses + higher multipliers |
| Obsidian | $1,000,000,000 | Full luxury VIP treatment and exclusive rewards |
The $1,000,000 Bad Beat Jackpot is a genuine added-value layer for cash game players. All Hold'em, PLO, PLO5, and PLO6 ring games participate automatically, with 3% of rake flowing into the pool. When triggered, the losing hand collects 5.6% of the jackpot, the winning hand 3.5%, and remaining active players share 2.1%. The qualifying hand minimums vary by format, but the jackpot is real and growing - a meaningful side-benefit on top of standard session play.
06 Who Stake Poker is for - and who it is not
Recreational players and crypto-native gamblers: yes. The combination of soft fields (pulled from a 127M-visit casino platform), browser-based access with no download friction, fast crypto withdrawals in under two hours, and 20-plus supported cryptocurrencies makes Stake the path-of-least-resistance option for anyone already in the crypto ecosystem. The $1,000,000 Bad Beat Jackpot and daily freerolls add texture beyond standard casino fare.
Tournament grinders: conditionally. The daily schedule is thin and the largest guarantee is $2,000, which limits field sizes and the size of scores available. If your primary game is MTTs, GGPoker or WPT Global offer materially richer schedules. Stake's value for tournament players is as a side room - soft fields, daily freerolls worth entering, and soft cash games to plug volume gaps between sessions.
Volume cash-game regulars: proceed with caution. The 7% rake is a real cost. The six-table cap limits gross hourly volume. Rakeback at 3.5% is well below the 30-50% available at top rakeback-focused rooms. The upside is a softer player pool than most comparable-traffic rooms - but the math for high-volume grinders at NL50 and above is tight. Run your own rake-vs-edge calculation before committing a significant portion of your volume here.
Players in major regulated markets including the US (Stake.com version), UK, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and most of Western Europe cannot access Stake.com at all - only the sweepstakes Stake.us product is available in the US, and Stake.us does not currently offer real-money multiplayer poker. Grey-market play via VPN is explicitly against terms and will result in funds being seized at KYC. Verify your eligibility before depositing.
